Why Mud Season is the Most UNDERRATED Time of Year in Breckenridge Colorado - Anthony Sole Luxury Real Estate Agent in Breckenridge Colorado
Summit County just isn't quiet anymore....Or is it?
There are 2 small pockets of the year where you can actually enjoy the mountains of Breckenridge all to yourself. This is our shoulder season or mud season. We experience this small pocket of serenity at the beginning of October until Thanksgiving and usually at the tail end of ski season from mid April to the end of May.
These are times when Summit County and Breckenridge slow down after busy tourist seasons. Folks go back to their lives, whether that be Texas, Florida, California, Denver and beyond and locals finally get a chance to catch their breath. Myself included after a busy real estate season.
The major drawback to both of these seasons is that, typically, it is too cold to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking or water sports and not enough to snow to go skiing (or at least enjoy it). We tend to have most of our overcast days in these times as the changing of the seasons comes upon us so it isn't always sunny the way it would be in Summer or after a big snow storm in winter.
The other thing is that a lot of locals tend to skip town for vacation meaning some of our favorite local restaurants close down...
But this is where the Pros of mud season really kick in.
It is lonely, meaning it is just you and the mountains (and a few smiling locals). The trails are empty, the roads are clear, the tourist noise is non-existent. It is truly the most peaceful time of year.
As you can see from the photo above, camping around Colorado this time of year is magical because there are still some pockets of leaves (especially south) and incredible camping to be had. Think crispy mornings, bugling Elk, jaw dropping scenery and all of it to yourself.
My wife and I get to enjoy the restaurants (that are still open) with no lines and no madness. It is just us, good food and laid back vibes! We get to enjoy our favorite trails by ourselves. Not that there is anything bad about seeing other folks enjoying the trails, but how magical when you can walk for miles and not see a single soul. It feels like the mountains were carved especially for you and that you are King or Queen of the world for just a brief moment.
Businesses, including mine, tend to slow down a bit giving us a breath of fresh air. No more rushing to appointments or putting in 12 hour days. I get to catch up on my favorite Netflix shows, finish some DIY projects around the home, spend more quality time with friends and family and just RELAX!
So while mud season might not be the best time of the year for the mountains it has some amazing perks and true PEACE. So if you are thinking of calling the mountains of Colorado home, reach out to me so we can set up a virtual showing of your favorite properties and see how we can bring the ultimate PEACE to your life.
